What is the difference between Matcha and Coffee?
Both very popular beverages, but they have several differences, including:
Source:
Matcha green tea comes from powdered whole tea leaves, specifically from the Camellia sinensis plant.
Coffee is made from roasted coffee beans.
Caffeine Content:
While both matcha and coffee contain caffeine, matcha generally has less caffeine than coffee. Matcha contains L-theanine which is a calming amino acid – this means that matcha has slow releasing caffeine contents.
Preparation:
Matcha is typically prepared by whisking the powdered tea with hot water until frothy, resulting in a suspension of the tea particles.
Coffee is brewed by steeping ground coffee beans in hot water, often using methods such as drip brewing, French press, or espresso.
Taste:
Matcha has a unique flavour profile that is often described as earthy
Coffee has a rich, bold flavour
Nutritional Profile:
Matcha is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.
Coffee also contains antioxidants but in different amounts.
